As most of you know, yesterday was Øystein Aarseth’s 20th anniversary of death. Yesterday was a normal day for me, nothing has changed in my life, which makes me realize that fetter of death, life goes on.
On the 10th of August, exactly twenty years ago, died a man I never understood and will never understand. I’m pretty sure Ø stein was not a person in whom I must inspire myself on, as well as most of the personalities of the True Norwegian Black Metal, but they were the creators of a ideology. Black metal is a movement too big to be simply ignored. Black metal has transcended the boundaries of music, with a much deeper meaning and important, which marked the history of communication and media, and today is the protagonist of academic studies on psychology. I study the Black Metal. I write texts and do research on the heyday of the genre, and even then I’m sure I’ll never understand it completely. And I’ll probably never understand its creator, Øystein Aarseth.
You did something big, Øystein. So big that not even time could erase.
